The partition “pianist-dancer” of Games will be enriched by drums, bass, and sax, instruments originally present in a quartet jazz-formation type, and by three contemporary dancers, therefore the name DOBLE QUARTET.
The concept is pairing a dancer and a musician during the whole length of the performance, the basic principle of theme-improvisation-theme stays the same.
The repertoire of the selected jazz themes extends to existent themes mixed with created themes of any piece. The contribution of new musicians and dancing bodies increases the gamma of possibilities, in both spatial and sound ambiance fields. The game is enhanced significantly, the show takes a new dimension that the artists have at heart to commonly explore throughout repetitions wished collectively, which often does not go without practice organisation problems!
The exploration of the relation that unites contemporary dance and jazz music is at the heart of the project. It is elaborated on the field, day to day without pretensions nor intellectually pre-set aims. The way is entertaining, sensorial, sensitive, free and intuitive.
The space, length, the nature of the compositions are completely adaptable to the circumstances: game on stage or in a public place, indoors or outdoors, paired with another performance of different nature; for example a text reading…
DOBLE QUARTET gives birth, along its way, to various pieces written between the different structured improvisations created for each occasion…
The performance Monk’ments created in May 2013 is a tribute full of energy and humour to the great emblematic 20th century jazz figure Thélonius Monk.
