...little excursion throughout the Big Apple, always in good company...
New York… What a wonder-aw-ful city! I will never know if I love it or hate it… Anyway, it will never stop to surprise and amaze me… Summer as winter… The colours are changing, but something stay similar… Maybe it’s the frenetic rhythm doesn’t change, the same totally random people swarming everywhere. Probably it’s the same overdoses of art to see, stuffs to do, music and dance in all their shapes. The same weird places to discover, in each street a new world. The same people from everywhere, that you will never know if they are living together in a wonderland harmony or totally for separate in a crude reality. The same fake heterogeneity. The same animals running in the middle of the cars, metro rails, benches and more. The same contrast between the skyline of the rich buildings and the wild trees on both side of Central Park borderline. The same too much of too many everything that you can always get whenever you don’t even want to. The same 24/7 open places where you can buy what you don’t even need. The same fake liberty they try to sell you. The same huge walk for so few centimetres on the map. The same hight quality of art you can fall on in each corner. And of course, the same Moustache restaurant, with the same fantastic manager. Or perhaps it’s only the opened windows with the full heater or climatisation on. And yet so different after 5 years… the time is definitely passing by… anywhere and everybody… In a way, form my side, the big change was to feel that I pass from being “only" a student, discovering each places from my minor point of view, to be a growing little pawn in the huge life-art game, keep discovering everything, of course, but meeting some people who already knew you… Hanging with my spanish friends from La Canalla, touring in USA, dancing in the Fat Cat and other places, among other with my italian friend Pascuale Grasso, meet few days ago in Alhaurín, being invited to some gig like the Barry Harris one and to watch some good dance classes, meeting Peter Berstein in the street, and being surprised by the fact that he recognised me (and as the jazz dancer…), meeting other huge musician that I’m listening to since a long time… New York days… Music, dance, laugh, run, rush, bad food, lost and found days… Hope to cross you in my way soon (or not!)…
